Khoj is a youth-led initiative that empowers young people to explore their potential, live resourcefully, and take responsibility for shaping a better world

​

Rooted in the Gandhian philosophy of Swaraj (self-rule), at Khoj we design immersive experiential learning journeys where youth step out of their comfort zones and engage directly with grassroots realities. Through travel, volunteering, and community living, participants cultivate self-awareness, teamwork, and leadership while contributing to social and environmental change. Khoj is more than a program. It’s a movement of young people who are daring to question, explore, and reimagine the way we live and lead.

Our Story

 

Khoj was born out of a simple yet powerful realisation: there is a huge gap between young people and their duties towards society.

​

In India, most young people are not encouraged to dream freely or take risks. From an early age, they are directed towards secure jobs, conventional success, and socially accepted career paths. Choosing one’s own way is often seen as rebellion, and failure is treated as a taboo. This system leaves little space for exploration, creativity, or courage.

​

But every young person carries within them a spark—an ability to imagine new possibilities and shape meaningful change. What’s missing is a safe space where they can step outside the pressure of societal expectations, experiment, learn from failures, and discover their true potential.

Our founder’s own journey of leaving behind a secure job and volunteering across India revealed that real learning happens outside the classroom and beyond comfort zones. Whether it was serving at a leprosy hospital, working in schools, or living with farming communities, each experience deepened the realization that youth, when exposed to grassroots realities, undergo profound transformation.

Khoj was created to design such journeys at scale—so that young people don’t just follow a path laid out for them, but dare to create their own.

 

What We Do

 

The Great Indian Treasure Hunt

Our flagship program—an immersive experiential learning journey across India. Participants travel together, stay with grassroots organizations, and actively engage in their daily work. They learn to adapt, collaborate, and lead while working on pressing issues like education, sustainability, health, and community development.

Khoj Shala

Khoj Shala is a series of short-term experiential workshops that spark curiosity, reflection, and action. The modules focus on leadership, sustainability, emotional intelligence, social innovation, and civic actions, specially designed for schools, colleges, and youth organisations

 

The Khoj Collective

Khoj Collective is our annual gathering of alumni, grassroots partners, and mentors from across India who carry the Khoj spirit forward. It is a space to share journeys, exchange learnings, and collaborate on new ideas for social and environmental change. More than a reunion, the Collective is a celebration of courage, curiosity, and community.

 

Youth Hub 

We are building a learning Youth Hub across India, evolving into community youth centres fully run and utilised by young people. These hubs bring youth together to co-live, co-learn, and co-create solutions for a sustainable and compassionate future.
